Police are investigating the killing of former NTV reporter Wambui Kabiru at her house in Nairobi.

Her body was found on Sunday with marks on the neck, an indication she may have been strangled.

Police said her death could have occurred on Saturday night but it was not discovered until 7.30pm the following day.

Her husband, Mr Moses Dola Otieno, who has not been seen since, is being sought by police.

They want to question him, as he is believed to be the last person to see her alive and the first to break the sad news.

Police had to break into the bedroom of the house in Umoja Innercore estate where the body was found covered with bedding.

A relative, Mr Fredrick Ating’a, said he was called by Mr Otieno’s mother on Sunday evening, asking him to go to the house and find out what had happened.

Mr Otieno had called her earlier to deliver the bad news. “I sent two cousins who live nearby to find out more and they informed me the body had been found,” he told the Nation.

Mr Kevin Chege, a caretaker of the building where Ms Kabiru lived, said he had not seen her the whole day on Sunday.

He and the relatives had knocked on the bedroom door for over an hour and called the police because there was no response.

Officers from Buru Buru Police Station broke the door to gain entry.

Mr Chege said he heard no commotion and that he had exchanged pleasantries with Ms Kabiru on Saturday evening.

Ms Kabiru’s close friends said the family has had domestic problems that at times would degenerate into fights.

Ms Kabiru was a mother of a two-year-old son. Mr Ating’a said the family was worried and did not know Mr Otieno’s whereabouts.

“We have not heard a word from him,” he said.

Ms Kabiru’s brother told the police he was with Mr Otieno on Sunday having drinks at a bar in Umoja but he never told him about the death.

In a report to the police he quoted Mr Otieno saying: “Dada yako ananisumbua sana lakini nitatafuta njia (Your sister is stubborn but I will find a solution).”

Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe appealed to Mr Otieno to report to the authorities.
