Police on Monday evening recovered explosive substances consisting of nitrate fertilizer and detonators at a Vihiga farm.

Area District Criminal Investigation Officer Boaz Obetto said the explosive materials were found in a deserted farm by an area resident.

Also recovered were 90 boosters used to optimise the effects of an explosion.

Mr Obetto said some of the explosive materials recovered were used in quarries to blow up stones.

He said the preliminary analysis reports by bomb experts drawn from Kisumu noted that the substances were to be used for assembling a bomb.

“These are high calibre explosives. They are capable of generating a lot of force that a quarry do not need,” he said.
