Police investigating the death of former policeman Tony Ogunda have interviewed former Cabinet minister Raphael Tuju’s son.

Mr Mano Tuju was interviewed on Saturday, and the former minister is expected to record a statement with the detectives on Monday.

Detectives at Nairobi’s Kilimani Police Station targeted them because of their links to the deceased, who was the lover of Mrs Ruth Akinyi Tuju— the estranged wife of the former minister.

The couple has a divorce case in court and Mr Ogunda is mentioned in documents filed by Mr Tuju.

Mrs Tuju had her statement taken after nearly four-hour session with detectives at the station on Thursday last week.

At the same time, detectives are awaiting results from the Government Chemist where samples taken from the body of the deceased are being analysed.

“We have not recorded their statements (Tuju’s) because they are suspects, but because we have to talk to everybody who was linked to the deceased in any way,” Nairobi police chief Benson Kibui said on Sunday.

Police presented in court Mr Collins Okoth Opondo and told the judge that they intended to charge him with the murder of Mr Ogunda but asked for time to wrap up investigations.

Lady Justice Rosemary Korir granted the request and directed the police to “conduct and conclude” their investigations within six days and present Mr Opondo in court on July 12.

Mr Ogunda was found dead by Mr Opondo on Tuesday last week after spending the night together at a house owned by the Tujus in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.

Mr Opondo was detained after the postmortem report revealed the deceased had injuries in the head.
