Police shot dead a man and recovered a consignment of laptops worth millions of shillings in Kayole, Nairobi Wednesday.

Two lorries transporting the laptops from Mombasa to Kampala were hijacked at Mlolongo by men who were driving in a private car that was also recovered by police. Two others escaped.

Kayole OCPD Samuel Mukindia said police were yet to establish the quantity of the consignment.

In May, an officer attached to police headquarters was arrested together with six other suspected robbers in a dramatic incident on Mombasa Highway.

The officer, who is a motorbike rider, delivers mails from and to police headquarters in Nairobi.

The gang had tried to hijack a trailer with pharmaceutical drugs worth Sh30 million.

The 40-feet trailer was headed for Kampala, Uganda when the officer in full uniforms flagged it down saying he wanted to inspect it.
