Barely an hour after Botswana Foreign Affairs minister Phandu Skelemani said Kenya’s President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta was not welcome to his country if he does not cooperate with the ICC, Kenyans raised a ruckus online.

Angry tweets were sent condemning Botswana’s move.

The tweets ranged from witty, hilarious to outright absurd.

Koome Gitobu tweeted: “#SomeonetellBotswana I hear their voter population is 800k. Meaning Sonko could run unopposed.”

Joe Ray tweeted: “#SomeoneTellBotswana that Botswana is the Rongai of South Africa.”

Jim Guteta had a witty tweet: “#SomeoneTellKenya we can’t tweef with #BOT Their voting population is the same size as our spoilt votes. #SomeOneTellBotswana”

But the Motswana did not take the insults lightly, they quickly started the trend #SomeonetellKenya and had choice words for Kenyans.

Lerako reminded Kenyans: “#SomeoneTellKenya their Constitution was revised by Motswana, Unity Dow, we own you guys.”

Mr Skelemani later sent a retraction and apologised to Kenyans over his earlier comments.
