Residents of Kangema Constituency and the entire Murang’a County were on Wednesday coming to terms with the death of their MP John Michuki. (READ: Michuki dead at 80)

And despite the former environment minister having come down hard on members of the Mungiki sect during his tenure at the Internal Security docket, residents seemed to have no grudge and eulogised him as a good and irreplaceable leader, who was committed to the development of the area.

“We have no issue with the way the minister dealt with the youth from the area. He was doing his job as the man in charge of security to ensure all Kenyans, including his constituents, went on about their lives without being harassed”, PNU treasurer David Michuki said.

Ruthless response

Murang’a was among the areas that were hardest hit by the Mungiki menace. At one point, members of the sect armed with guns attacked his home and killed a chief, prompting ruthless response by the government.

Murang’a leaders singled out the former minister’s desire to work for the people for development.

PNU leaders, led by Councillor Peter Kihongi, said the minister would be hard to replace.

Workers at the CDF office wept uncontrollably saying they had lost a mentor, whom they referred to as their father.
