Teachers are split over support for the proposed constitution.

Whereas tutors in Narok endorsed it, those in South Rift are opposed it.

More than 3,000 teachers attending an annual general meeting (AGM) at St Mary’s Primary School in Narok said they were happy with section 237 of the draft which creates an independent Teachers’ Service Commission “among other progressive provisions.”

But teachers from Bureti, Trans Mara, Kericho and Kipkelion vowed to oppose the proposed set of laws.

They argued that the new law had expunged the Teachers Service Remuneration Committee which advocates for their pay interests.

Last week, the Knut national office endorsed the draft.
