Police have shot dead three men in Nairobi’s South C area.

The men, together with two others, were riding in motorbikes prior to the shooting involving Flying Squad officers.

The incident occured near the Kenya Institute of Water at around 12 noon Tuesday.

“These were gangsters on a robbery mission and were being trailed by our officers. They challenged them to stop but instead started to escape while shooting.

"The Flying squad is second to none when it comes to gun handling and so the three were fatally shot,” said Nairobi police boss Benson Kibui.

He said a Ceska and Browning pistols loaded with 14 and four rounds of ammunition respectively were recovered.

The two escaped in motorbikes.

Separately, a motorist suffered injuries after he was caught up in a shooting between gangsters and a lone CID officer.

One of the suspected robbers was also gunned down.

The incident happened in Ruai at around 9.30 pm on Monday.

The off duty officer was driving home when he chanced upon three men robbing a pedestrian near Kamunyonge area.

A panga and a pair of handcuffs were recovered.

Earlier in night, two men were gunned down in the city’s Central Business District.

One of them was shot dead at the Globe Cinema flyover after he plucked a side mirror from a vehicle that was held in a traffic jam.

The other man was killed in similar circumstances at the old Nation roundabout.
