The Syokimau train to Nairobi city stalled on the rails on Thursday morning after developing an engine failure.

The train stalled 14 minutes after leaving the station.

Hundreds of morning commuters using the train remained stranded for around 40 minutes as they waited for another engine that was dispatched from the Nairobi central station.

Passenger service manager Baraza Soita explained that the train developed a locomotive failure.

The Syokimau train was launched in November last year as one of the flagship projects of the Vision 2030 blueprint. (READ: Kibaki launches Sh400m Syokimau Rail Service)

It was meant to impact positively on traffic management in Nairobi and its suburbs.
