Nairobi deputy police commander Moses Ombati confirmed the shooting of two people in Nairobi during a robbery incident August 31, 2012.

What you need to know:

  • Gang of four men raided a business premise on Lunga Lunga Road in Industrial Area and shot the owner at around 6.00pm.

Two people suffered gunshot wounds and a suspected carjacker was stoned to death in separate incidents in Nairobi.

The suspect, together with two other armed men, had taken control of a car at gunpoint and were speeding away when it landed in a ditch a few metres from the crime scene.

The 9.00pm incident at Ongata Rongai attracted a crowd that pelted the fleeing gang with stones, killing one of them while the others managed to escape.

Earlier, a gang of four men raided a business premise on Lunga Lunga Road in Industrial Area and shot the owner at around 6.00pm.

"He tried to resist when the gang entered his premise where he owns a soda depot. A bullet went through his ribs and he was admitted to hospital in a fair condition," said Nairobi deputy police commander Moses Ombati.

The gang robbed him of an unknown amount of cash.

Elsewhere, a woman who owns a salon in the vicinity, was shot and wounded in the thigh during the confrontation.

In yet another incident, gangsters were forced to flee after a botched carjacking attempt in Ngong.

Three armed men had confronted a motorist at the Ngong shopping centre at around 1.30 am but the driver jumped out before they seized him.

“The gangsters left the vehicle there and fled after they failed to catch him. They however ransacked the vehicle,” said Mr Ombati.
