A refugee was shot dead by unknown gunmen and another stabbed to death in Dadaab in two separate incidents on Saturday night.

The officer commanding Dadaab Refugee camp Shariff Abdalla said that one of the deceased was walking back to the Ifo camp and he had some movements, prompting him to switch on his spotlight.

The attackers mistook him for a police officer and shot him dead.

Mr Abdalla said that the other refugee was stabbed in the stomach and bled to death by his colleagues in what the police say could be rivalry between different communities within the camp.

He however said that no one had been arrested in the two separate incidents.

Police say that a major operation has been going on to mob up illegal firearms within the camp that has lately experienced rising case of insecurity.

Some of the refugees are said to be involved in criminal activities and are also said to be sneaking out of the camps to major towns.

The government has ordered all refugees and asylum seekers to return to the camps.

Last week, Nairobi PC Njoroge Ndirangu said that some refugees were charged in Nairobi court and would be repatriated soon.

On Wednesday, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s voter registration centre at Ifo1, injuring a woman.
