Uhuru says Govt will act on Tana Delta report

President Uhuru Kenyatta has said the government will take action on perpetrators of the Tana Delta violence.

He was speaking when he received a report on the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the ethnic violence.

The report was presented to President Kenyatta by the Commission chairperson Lady Justice Grace Nzioka at State House, Nairobi Wednesday.

The Commission appointed by former President Kibaki was mandated to investigate the ethnic violence that occurred in Tana Delta districts with a view of establishing the origin, the probable, the immediate and the underlying causes of the violence.

It also was tasked with looking into the action taken by law enforcement agencies with respect to incidents of crime arising out of or committed in the course of the violence and the effectiveness of the actions.

The report identifies conflict over resources as one of the major causes of the ethnic violence and recommends prosecution of the perpetrators.

During the ceremony, the President thanked the Commission for a job well done despite the challenges faced and assured Kenyans that the government will study the report and act.

Present were Attorney General Prof Githu Muigai, Head of Public Service Francis Kimemia among other senior government officials.
