Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Sunday asked Kenyans to take advantage of opportunities that will be created by the new Constitution to improve their lives.
“Opportunities provided by the new Constitution should make people stop relying on white-collar jobs and instead put resources at their disposal to proper use for agricultural and economic benefits,” he said.
The Prime Minister, who was speaking in Bondo, Nyanza Province, also called for respect for the provisions of the new Constitution.
“As much as the Constitution protects the public against police harassment, the public should also respect the rule of law,” said Mr Odinga.
He reiterated his call on the electorate to embrace unity and shun tribalism. The PM also urged them to use their voting powers in determining the kind of leadership they required.
At the same time, Mr Odinga urged residents of Nyanza Province to mobilise resources within the region for their economic empowerment.
The Prime Minister’s wife, Mrs Ida Odinga, said that women would only benefit from the provisions in the new Constitution if they empower themselves academically.
Mrs Odinga said that more parents should push for the education of the girl child so that this greater goal is attained.
