Somali’s 475 member House to cater for all
SOMALIA, Wednesday
The first session of Somalia’s enlarged parliament has been held yesterday in Djibouti, the capital of neighbouring Republic of Djibouti.
Two hundred new members were sworn in as the opposition Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS) presented its team to parliament to join those from the Transitional Federal Parliament (TFP).
Speaker Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur, said parliament would be made of 475 MPs and that another 75 also from the opposition would parliament later.
Large Parliament
The enlarged parliament is the result of an agreement between TFG and ARS last October, stipulating power sharing.
The new parliament has also established the election for the federal president of Somalia that became vacant when former President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed resigned on December 29. Several presidential hopefuls have already submitted their candidacy.
Nur Hassan Hussein, the caretaker PM, former PMs, Ali Mohammed Ghedi and Ali Khalif Galayr, are among those who have announced their candidacy. Some candidates are from the diaspora.
But they face a challenge following the recent announcement of Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the leader of ARS as the opposition’s sole candidate.

550 Mps!!! what a the heck is wrong with us? The question i ask myself everytime i hear this kind of crazyness is. Are we going to feed these lunatics or rebuild this war ravaged country? We can not afford to pay 550 Mps. My people lets use our heads, and think like a decent humanbeings. We also need to understand that some people are born to lead, and some are grassroots, we can not all be leaders and politicians. And finally we need competent leaders, not like the current ones, they will lead us into hell.
