Turkey is not a state party to the ICC and thus has no legal obligation to arrest al-Bashir as a result of the warrant.

At the same time, the UN Security Council - in resolution 1593, which referred Darfur to the ICC in March 2005 - urges all states to cooperate with the ICC. Turkey became an elected member of the UN Security Council for two years in January 2009. In addition, Turkey has for some time sought membership in the European Union.

All EU member states are parties to the ICC, and are strongly committed to the court and accountability for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. (Reuters)

Who is going to issue a warrant of arrest for Queen Elizabeth for the crimes against humanity during the Mau Mau war in 1952-1957... I really look forward when she will be sitting next to Taylor at the Hague... or better still in Arusha... God give me the years to see that day!

Al Bashir's days as a free man are numbered. He knows it, his people know it and the world knows it. When he said he is going to Turkey, he was in denial...now he knows how a sheep feels when its tithered.

No worries he will be neighbours with Taylor it doesnt martter how long but he will Join the rest same applies to the other AU countries who think covering for him wll help them not get the warrant for there arrest

They should not have made public his warrant for arrest. They should have waited for him to travel to one of ICC friendly country and then produce the arrest warrant to his face. They could even have invited him to the Hague and then have him arrested there. The arrest warrant may take years to be acted upon. I would like to see this guy sitting next to Taylor at the Hague

Are these guys serious in arresting this man or not? Why not let him attend so that they could nab him nicely? Looks like they are intent on giving him protection instead!
