The Angolan constitutional court has given five political parties and four coalitions’ candidates the green light to contest in the general election scheduled for next August 31.
According to a statement released on Monday, the constitutional court approved the candidacies of the ruling MPLA and the opposition PRS, Unita, FNLA and Papod parties.
Other coalition parties whose candidate lists have been approved are the CASA-CE (group of four political parties), ND (seven), CPO (four) and Fuma (six).
“Some 26 political parties, five competing alone plus 21 associates will be involved in the electoral process and dispute of the General Election,” explained the statement.
The coalition lists of other parties such as PDP-ANA, BD, PP, PCCA, PN, MDIA-PCN, CVD, PSD, PDA, PSA, CAU, UDNA, PREA and LUA coalition were rejected at the last screening of their applications.
The constitutional court asked the political parties and their representatives to present their petitions within the 48 hours deadline under the Organic Law on Elections.
