LUSAKA

A Zambian high court reserved judgment on Monday in an appeal by the wife of former Zambian president Frederick Chiluba against her conviction for receiving stolen property.

“Judgement is reserved to October 1,” Justice Evans Hamaundu told the court. Regina Chiluba, who was accompanied by her husband at the hearing, wants the high court to nullify a three-and-half-year prison term imposed by a magistrate’s court in March 2009.

Lusaka chief resident magistrate Charles Kafunda passed the sentence after finding the former leader’s wife guilty on five counts of receiving property believed to be stolen while Mr Chiluba was in office. (AFP)
