Political rivalry has been blamed for the upsurge in banditry and cattle rustling along the Kwanza and West Pokot districts boundary.

Cabinet minister Noah Wekesa accused some politicians from the two districts of fuelling the attacks to discredit incumbent leaders.

“The fight for political supremacy is fuelling insecurity in the two districts, and derailing economic development,” said Mr Wekesa.

Meeting

The Kwanza MP however promised to convene a meeting with West Pokot counterpart Julius Murgor and elders from the two districts on how to find lasting peace.

Speaking at the weekend, he appealed to the government to resolve land ownership disputes to avert ethnic animosities.
