Roads minister Franklin Bett has announced his intention to vie for the chairman’s post in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Tinderet MP Henry Kosgey is the current chairman.

ODM conducted grassroots polls last year and the elected delegates are expected to pick national officials later this year. (READ: ODM primaries for top seat to be done in counties)

Mr Bett, who was speaking in Nakuru town on Tuesday, also said he was not going to defend his Bureti seat and was offering himself as a running mate for any serious presidential candidate.

“Having worked for a president for 10 years and from the experience I have gained recently, I believe I have what it takes to do the job,” he said.

Mr Bett maintained that a sizeable number of the Kalenjins was still in ODM.

“You cannot say that they have left 100 per cent because we are still there with our supporters,” he added.
