DPP directs Police to probe Raila murder plot

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed the Police to open investigations into sensational claims by Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo of a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In a letter to Commissioner Mathew Iteere, DPP Keriako Tobiko directed the Police to interrogate and record statements from Mr Midiwo and Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Ongeri.

"The gravity and magnitude of the allegations by Hon Modiwo, particularly during this period when the country is preparing for the next general election, cannot be over-emphasized.

"These allegations therefore require a prompt, thorough and speedy investigation to establish their veracity or otherwise," said the letter.

"I hereby direct you to cause immediate investigations into the said allegations to be carried out and a report of the findings thereon submitted to me without delay for appropriate orders and direction.

"It is directed that Hon Midiwo and all persons he has mentioned, be summoned, interrogated and statements recorded as part of the investigations.

The Gem MP had on Saturday named Prof Ongeri and his ministry as being used to hatch the assassination plan.
