Death great loss to Kenya, say leaders

Leaders from across the country on Wednesday paid tribute to Mr Michuki, describing his death as a great loss to the nation.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, former President Daniel arap Moi, deputy PM Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto, among others, mourned the minister.

Mr Odinga said he had learnt of Mr Michuki’s death with great sorrow and pain.

Courageous man

“Although I knew he was struggling with health problems, I always believed he would prevail given his strong personality and will,” the PM said.

Mr Musyoka described the minister as a strong family man and a distinguished personality who made an indelible mark in serving the nation. “He will be remembered as a great politician, patriot, astute businessman and a devoted public servant,” he said.

Mr Moi said Mr Michuki was a courageous man who performed his duties to perfection.

“I have known him from pre-independence days as a courageous man who performed his public service assignments with zeal and perfectionism,” he said.

Mr Kenyatta described the Kangema MP as an illustrious, dedicated and focused leader.

“Kenya will miss this resolute man who did not wait for things to happen,” he said.

Mr Ruto appealed to Kenyans to honour Mr Michuki by emulating his exemplary leadership talent.

Narc-Kenya boss Martha Karua said the minister was a great leader who achieved what seemed impossible.

House Speaker Kenneth Marende described the Kangema MP as a very able member of the House and a patriotic Kenyan.

National Assembly Clerk Patrick Gichohi described Mr Michuki as a personal friend and a stickler for the procedure and rules of the House.
