  • Mr Kenneth says Mr Mudavadi is free to join the Eagle alliance but he should not nurse hopes that “he will be our flagbearer.”

The Eagles Coalition on Sunday said it was ready to work with Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi but will not make him the automatic flagbearer, presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth said.

The Gatanga MP said Mr Mudavadi and his UDF party were free to join the Eagle alliance but he should not nurse hopes that “he will be our flagbearer.”

“We are ready to accept him in our team but let him not assume that we will hand him the presidential ticket,” said Mr Kenneth.

The Gatanga MP for the first time revealed that Mr Mudavadi had gone to his residence for talk on forming an alliance on December 3, but he later learnt that the Sabatia MP was at the same time involved in negotiations with the Jubilee Coalition.

Mr Kenneth said he tried to persuade Mr Mudavadi to sign a deal with him at his residence on December 3 but their talks failed to materialise.

“Mr friend, Mudavadi came to my residence on December 3, at midnight and we discussed at length how we could forge an alliance. Before we could conclude the talks, I learnt that he had been approached by his friends in the Jubilee Coalition,” said Kenneth.

Mr Kenneth was addressing aspirants and supporters in Kakamega after attending a church service at the Christ Church Anglican Cathedral.

He was accompanied by Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa and Party of Action (POA) party leader Raphael Tuju.

Mr Kenneth said he was not surprised by the fallout in the Jubilee coalition after Deputy Prime Minster Uhuru Kenyatta disowned an agreement in which he had indicated he would step down from the presidential race and support Mr Mudavadi.

Mr Wamalwa did not comment on the matter but said the coalition was ready to work with other parties including UDF.
