The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is the latest beneficiary of the current wave of defections after officials of various political parties decamped to the party.

Former Ntonyiri MP Maoka Maore is among politicians who joined the Orange party form Kanu Thursday.

Former Ford-Kenya vice chairperson Gloria Akhayalu also ditched her party for ODM as did former Mumias mayor Caroline Waluchio.

The two are aspiring for County women representatives in Busia and Vihiga respectively.

ODM secretary general Anyang' Nyong'o, who received the defectors at Orange House, Nairobi, said the party was confident of clinching the presidency in the next General Election.

Prof Nyong'o urged other politicians wishing to vie for various seats in the elections to join ODM, which he said will conduct free, fair and transparent nominations.

"Their (defectors) coming to the party will have a tremendous effect on our campaigns and boost our outreach”, he said.

Former Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology vice chancellor Ratemo Michieka was also said to have joined ODM although he was not present at the function.

Others who also joined the Orange party include Kakamega county Knut branch chairman Patrick Chungani, who is eyeing the Shinyalu parliamentary seat.
