Omtatah: Group in Owallo case is mine

Police investigations on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s aide have taken a new twist after a city activist claimed ownership of a movement cited in the case.

In a letter to the head of the Serious Crimes Unit John Kariuki, Mr Okiya Omtatah has claimed ownership of March 4 Movement (M4M), arguing there was nothing seditious in the formation.

Mr Omtatah, who absolved Mr Odinga’s former campaign chief Eliud Owalo from allegations he is linked to the outfit, said his movement was planning to roll out mass campaigns to popularise a proposal to amend article 138 of the Constitution on presidential elections.

He said their aim was to prevent populous communities from dominating minorities in elections.

“M4M is a progressive and an above board campaign aimed at amending Article 138 of the Constitution of Kenya so as to move the country from the so-called “tyranny of numbers” to the safety of numbers.”

The M4M leader has also forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Department a letter he wrote to the IEBC Chairman Ahmed Issack Hassan on April 14 notifying him of his group’s intentions.

The Nation has learnt that CID investigators are this week planning to summon more of Mr Odinga’s aides based at his office before turning to a number of Senators and MPs linked to the group.

On Monday Mr Owalo is expected back to the CID headquarters for further questioning in a case whose shape has raised eyebrows.

On Sunday, Mr Kariuki denied receiving Mr Omtatah’s letter regarding the case but confirmed having talked to the activist on phone on the matter.
