Education permanent secretary James ole Kiyiapi will resign immediately after the release of the 2011 Form Four national exam results to concentrate on his presidential bid.

Prof Kiyiapi made the announcement at the weekend during the opening of an ICT centre at Katibel Day Secondary School in North Baringo.

He urged Kenyans to elect leaders with proven track records.

He said he was confident that Kenyans would back his bid for the top seat. “I’ve got all it takes to hold the high office. Please keep off people who are out to enrich themselves with your vote.”

Prof Kiyiapi called on leaders to preach unity ahead of the polls to avert a repeat of the 2007/08 post-election turmoil.

“We’ve been to hell and back and we should do all within our means to avoid a repeat of the same.”

The permanent secretary urged pastoralists to discard retrogressive cultural practices and ensure that their children get an education.

During the function, local leaders led by Baringo County Council chairperson Elizabeth Chesang threw their weight behind Prof Kiyiapi’s bid.
