Justice minister Eugene Wamalwa has said he will quit the presidential race if Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi becomes the Jubilee flag bearer.

Mr Wamalwa spoke as the Pambazuka Coalition, which includes his New Ford Kenya, agreed to retreat to their strongholds and urge members to register as voters.

The Saboti MP said he would pursue his dream of becoming Kenya’s next president on his own.

Unveiling his party’s elections board in Nairobi on Tuesday, Mr Wamalwa said: “I wish Mr Mudavadi well and he can count on my support if he becomes the Jubilee Accord flag bearer.

Last week, Mr  Wamalwa signed a pre-election deal with four other parties but they are yet to announce the alliance’s flag bearer.

The coalition includes New Vision Party of former powerful Cabinet minister Nicholas Biwott, Kadu Asili and Shirikisho party.

Mr Wamalwa said joining the alliance sent a message that he was in the presidential race to the end.
