I won’t return to Uhuru camp, declares Kiraitu

Energy minister Kiraitu Murungi on Tuesday maintained that his decision to cut links with The National Alliance party was final and would not be reversed.

Mr Murungi however denied claims that the fall out between him and TNA leader Uhuru Kenyatta came after he failed to secure a promise to be the leader of majority in the senate after the next elections. (Read: Kiraitu warned against decision to ditch TNA)

The minister also denied claims by some MPs that he had solicited money from the TNA leader for campaigns before leading an acrimonious walk out from the party.

“All I want is to be elected senator for Meru County, and I need no one’s good will besides the Meru voters. There is no time left for games and flattery and APK has decided let us meet on the other side of the Red Sea,” the minister said without elaborating.

Mr Murungi said the senate’s majority leader’s seat was among several positions being dangled to entice people into supporting the TNA but denied he ever angled for it.

“Dictatorship backed by deep pockets is not democracy and must be resisted,” the minister said.

Mr Murungi on Tuesday intensified campaigns in Mt Kenya east region to solidify support for his party in the area.
