ICC trio to attend prayer rally

Two presidential aspirants and their allies are expected to hold a major prayer rally in Uasin Gishu County on Friday.

Eldoret North MP William Ruto and Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta will lead a delegation of MPs at 64 stadium in Eldoret town barely a week after the confirmation of charges facing them by the International Criminal Court.

According to organisers, preparations for the rally that is set to kick off at 9am, are complete.

Eldoret South MP Peris Simam yesterday said preparations for the rally were finalised.

Maintain peace

“The main agenda of the meeting will be to conduct prayers and urge the people to maintain peace. It is also to offer moral support for our brothers whose charges were confirmed by ICC earlier this week,” said Ms Simam, the chair of the rally organising committee.

She could not confirm whether Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka and former Public Service boss Francis Muthaura would be in attendance.

However, radio presenter Joshua arap Sang, who also faces crimes against humanity charges alongside Mr Ruto and Mr Kenyatta, will attend the prayer meeting.

The ICC confirmed charges against Mr Kenyatta, Mr Ruto, Mr Sang and Mr Muthaura on Monday.
