Whoever said problems do not come singly must have had Prime Minister Raila Odinga in mind.

His Pentagon, a council of regional kingpins he crafted in 2007 that saw ODM win in six provinces, has been crumbling like a deck of cards.

It all started with Eldoret North MP William Ruto, who left acrimoniously to chart his own political path.

Tourism minister Najib Balala, who initially accompanied Ruto, has recently announced he would form his own party.

Water minister Charity Ngilu has lately been sending mixed signals while deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has been fighting for the ODM ticket.

But it was nominated MP Joseph Nyaga who delivered the shocker by appearing to be campaigning for deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta two weeks ago.

He is the only ODM MP in Mount Kenya region.

Extra time for MPs

So, Justice minister Mutula Kilonzo doesn’t want MPs to get the extra days they want to approve the Bills on land reforms.

He argues that MPs cannot amend Bills in the committee, which is fair. He says that if there are inconsistencies in the Bills, then that should be done on the floor of the House.

As Mr Kilonzo asked, what was the point of MPs going all the way to Mombasa and Naivasha for a retreat on the Bills on Land reforms? Don’t say allowances…

Going it alone

Vice-Presidnt Kalonzo Musyka is walking a tight rope.

After being sidelined by Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, Musyoka has combined forces with Eugene Wamalwa so that the two can have a bigger bargaining power within G7.

It could prove counterproductive because his supporters want him to start his own solo campaigns, popularise himself and pick a message that resonates with Kenyans.
