Mr Jimmy Kibaki has resigned as the patron of a high profile youth organisation he helped found last year.

Jimmy, President Kibaki’s son, announced his resignation from Simama Kenya, amidst a row sparked by his recent call to chairman Tom Namwamba to leave the outfit over conflict of interest.

Mr Namwamba is the chairman of the No secretariat—The Red Card Centre.

In a brief statement on Monday, the younger Kibaki said the position of patron was honorary and not executive.

Mr Kibaki has been spearheading the Simama Kenya, an initiative which, he says, is aimed at empowering the youth insisting it was non-political.

His resignation comes a day after Dr Namwamba suspended him saying he had the powers to do so as founder and chairman.
