Lawyer Kethi Kilonzo will on Friday know whether she will be on the ballot to succeed her father Mutula Kilonzo in the Makueni by-election scheduled for July 26.

High Court judges Richard Mwongo, Weldon Korir and Mumbi Ngugi are expected to give their verdict on the disputed registration of Ms Kilonzo which brought a sharp focus on the electoral commission and further fuelled political rivalries between the Cord and Jubilee coalitions.

The dispute was triggered soon after the Makueni county returning officer Salad Boru cleared Ms Kilonzo on June 27 and issued her with a nomination certificate to contest the seat on a Wiper ticket.

On July 1, Ms Agnes Ndetei and the People Party of Kenya filed a petition at the IEBC dispute resolution committee to revoke Ms Kilonzo’s nomination certificate on grounds that she was not a registered voter.
