Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday urged residents in areas hit by insecurity due to banditry and cattle rustling, to embrace community policing.

Mr Musyoka was concerned that cattle rustling had become the stumbling block to the development of some areas, saying community policing remained the key to elimination of such problems.

Addressing a rally in Baragoi town of Samburu North District, the VP said unless residents cooperated with security personnel by providing useful information which could lead to the arrest of the few criminals terrorising wananchi, security agencies alone could not eliminate such problems.

Creation of jobs

Mr Musyoka talked of economic improvement and creation of jobs for the youth if given the opportunity to lead the country after President Kibaki retires.

The Mwingi North MP, who was on his first day tour of Samburu County, encouraged Kenyans to downplay ethnic affiliation in favour of nationalism when they elect the next leader to replace President Kibaki.

Accompanied by Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka and local county council chairman Julius Leshimpiro, the Vice-President told Kenyans to judge him by his vision, experience and not his ethnic background. (VPPS)
