Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka has said his long experience makes him the best person to be the next president.

Mr Musyoka on Monday asked Kenyans to this time vote on the basis of leadership qualities, not tribal lines.

He said his long career in politics and diplomacy gave him a chance to interact with people from all over Kenya and across the globe and he understood the problems facing people all over the country.

The VP said he was a champion of the new Constitution and would ensure its implementation if voted in as President Kibaki’s successor.

He also pledged to tackle insecurity, famine, improve education and provide water in marginalised areas.

He promised scholarships through the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation for two needy children from the Samburu community up to university level.

Mr Musyoka, who was speaking in Wamba, Samburu East, on the third day of a tour of the county, said his Wiper Democratic Movement had an economic master plan that will change marginalised areas.

He promised to guarantee food security by improving the livestock sector, the economic pillar for residents in arid and semi-arid lands.

He urged leaders from areas hit by insecurity to preach reconciliation and encourage warring communities to sign peace accords.

“My party will encourage community elders and leaders in marginalised areas to play a greater role in providing security,” he said.

Mr Musyoka told the leaders that the government would not negotiate with groups that were a threat to security like the Mombasa Republican Council.
