Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka has spent the last two days meeting delegations from various parts of the country in a bid to convince opinion leaders to support his candidature.

The teams include professionals from Baringo, elders from Kajiado and civic leaders from Lamu and Bura counties.

Speaking at his Jogoo House office when he met civic leaders led by Wiper Democratic Movement nominated MP Shakila Abdalla, Mr Musyoka said he was prepared to contest the presidency and urged the leaders to support his candidature.

He promised to fight poverty, improve security, expand the economy to create jobs and prioritise agricultural production to attain food security.

The Vice-President said the government would ensure that the Lamu port project benefited the local community and those displaced were fairly compensated.

He praised the devolved system of government, adding that every county would have properly trained personnel to fast-track proper implementation of the system.

The Baringo professionals were led by county council chairperson Elizabeth Chesang.

The Kajiado leaders were led by Mr William ole Mishish, Mr Patrick ole Tuitui (Kajiado Central) and Mr John ole Ntimirri (Kajiado North).
