  • Those who steal public funds can not be trusted, says Ms Karua

Narc-Kenya presidential hopeful Martha Karua says she is the only one among those who want the top job who can clean the mess in the country.

Ms Karua said the country needed a hard working person to clean the mess by past governments.

She lamented that the poor had no rights while the rich were favoured everywhere and even got jobs where they did not meet qualifications.

“These are the injustices that we want to address and I want to assure you that if you give me the mandate, I will spearhead the fight against discrimination and make sure that all Kenyans have equal chances”, the Gichugu MP told a rally in Mutuati, Meru County, on Tuesday.

She said that in spite of the economic growth under the Kibaki government, the growth had not translated into a better life for common mwananchi.

Ms Karua criticised the free education programme, saying it was not really free since parents were required to pay some fees.
She reminded those doubting her candidacy as a woman that President Kibaki sent her to fight it out with other men in ODM during the disputed presidential election results row.

Ms Karua appealed to the residents of Mutuati to vote in Narc-K candidates to help her push the battle of transformation forward after forming the next government.

She warned aspirants on the party’s ticket that Narc-K would not compromise on discipline and hard work.

Later in Maua, she promised that she would not sleep on the job if voted in as the country’s fourth president.

Ms Karua called on Kenyans to be wise in electing the next president so that they don’t sell out the country to thieves and traitors.

She chided candidates involved in stealing public funds as they could not be trusted with the top seat, adding that those who instigated Kenyans to fight could not be trusted with the leadership.

Former cabinet minister David Mwiraria, who accompanied her, said Kenya needed a president of Ms Karua’s calibre.

On Wednesday, Ms Karua will be in Makutano, where she will open her party’s offices.
