Presidential aspirant Martha Karua on Friday said corruption was to blame for rising insecurity in the country.

She said although the country had enough financial and technological resources to avert terrorism and tribal clashes, those in charge were engaging in corruption instead of discharging their duties.

“The country has enough resources and technology to fight insecurity, yet it cannot because of corruption,” she said.

“Kenya cannot continue to lose citizens to clashes yet a few people are misusing resources that should be used to fight crime”.

The Narc-Kenya leader, who took her presidential campaign to Musalia Mudavadi’s backyard in Vihiga, asked the Luhya community not to elect leaders facing corruption charges and those accused of committing crimes against humanity.

“It does not make sense to elect leaders because they belong to our tribes or because they give us a few coins during the campaigns. We should elect leaders with agendas that will help us for a long period of time” Ms Karua said.

The Gichugu MP addressed rallies at Mudete, Chavakali, Lwanda, Mbale and six other centres in Sabatia Constituency.

She linked her exit from the government to several corruptions, saying that the coalition government had been shielding corrupt people.

“A third of budgetary allocations get lost to corruption and misuse,” she said.

She was accompanied by Narc-Kenya’s vice chairman Augustine Lotodo, who urged western Kenyan voters to give their votes to leaders who can make impacts in their lives.

He cited that several leaders who have been linked to corruption, yet none have been linked to Ms Karua.

They were flanked by Sabatia’s Narc-Kenya parliamentary aspirant, Mr David Ilagoswa, among other leaders.
