Kasarani MP Njoroge denies graft charges, out on Sh1.5m bond
Kasarani MP John Njoroge has denied soliciting Sh100,000 as inducement to facilitate payment of a project in his constituency.
Mr Njoroge denied three counts of corruption before acting chief magistrate Doreen Mulekyu of the anti corruption court.
He was granted a Sh1.5 million bond pending hearing of the case on September 30.
On Wednesday, the MP was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives for allegedly demanding a Sh150,000 bribe.
The detectives were tipped by a contractor that the first time legislator had demand the bribe to authorise payment of Sh3.3 million from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The contractor had put up a tuition block at Baba Dogo Road Secondary School in the constituency.
According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Executive Halakhe Waqo, a trap was set up and the MP was arrested in a ‘sting’ operation after he had already received Sh100, 000.
