A presidential aspirant has promised to address the problems facing the youth if elected in the March 4, 2013 elections.

Mr Peter Kenneth, who is eyeing the top seat on a Kenya National Congress ticket said in Nairobi on Wednesday evening that the youth form the bulk of the country’s population and their issues will be in the party’s manifesto.

Addressing members of the National Youth Forum (NYF), Mr Kenneth said the youth should actively take part in the 2013 polls and vote for a leader with their interests at heart.

“The youth should take national identification cards and register as voters to have a say in the country’s leadership. They should also keenly interrogate all the presidential candidates,” Mr Kenneth said before he took his campaigns to West Pokot on Thursday.

The Gatanga MP completed his campaign tour of Nyanza and Coast provinces on Wednesday, saying, he was the best to lead the country.

NYF chairman Nasum Okuwiya, who was accompanied by officials George Thuranira and Ngahu Njeri, said his team intended to meet all presidential candidates to interrogate their programmes for the youth, if elected. The group met URP’s William Ruto on Monday.

“Our intention is to see whether those seeking to lead the country understand youth issues and the solutions they have to address the issues,” he said.

The Gatanga MP cited his performance through prudent use of Constituency Development Funds.

His untainted image, his stint as the Kenya Football Federation boss and as an assistant minister qualified him to lead the country, he said.

Mr Kenneth said his party would help end all forms of discrimination including tribe, race, sex, ethnicity or disability, if elected President.

The party, he added, would promote open governance, transparency and respond to the needs of the people.
