ODM's Kidero is Nairobi Governor elect

Evans Kidero has been declared the Nairobi Governor-elect after getting 692,483 votes against his closest challenger Ferdinand Waititu who polled 617,839.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Kidero of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) said he will tirelessly work to improve the lives of Nairobi residents and rejuvenate the County's economy.

Businessman Jimnah Mbaru managed 52,084 votes while former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia garnered 5,182.

Mr Mbaru (Alliance Party of Kenya) conceded defeat.

"I would like to thank all the Nairobi residents who came out to vote for me and my entire team who worked tirelessly on my campaign over the past few months," he said.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude for those who sought me out to share their ideas, their needs and their aspirations for Nairobi.

"I wish the new Governor of Nairobi the best of luck in moving this great county forward," said Mr Mbaru.

In the Senate race, former Makadara MP Gideon Mbuvi (TNA) trounced ODM's Bishop Wanjiru.

"I will work with all my competitors to make our beautiful city of Nairobi a better place," Mr Mbuvi said.

He polled 808,705 votes against Bishop Wanjiru's 525,822.
