Presidential hopeful James ole Kiyiapi at the weekend censured his rivals for allegedly entering into tribal political alliances and sharing key government slots even before winning the polls.

Prof Kiyiapi said there was need for presidential aspirants to approach the exercise with soberness and give the people the opportunity to decide their next President instead of ‘hijacking’ the process.

The Restore and Build Kenya party leader said he was opposed to the formation of tribal alliances and challenged leaders to embrace democracy and let the people choose their preferred leaders irrespective of the tribe.

“It does not matter the tribe where the next President will come from so long as he or she can merit the position and able to spur the country’s economic growth,” he said.

He added that it was foolhardy for some leaders to talk of sharing positions and the national cake equitably if their tribal alliances form the next government.

The former Education Permanent Secretary said if his party forms the next government, he would slay the dragon of corruption and ensure that education and health care services are accessible to the rural poor.

He urged Kenyans live in peace and harmony so as to build a cohesive nation devoid of tribalism.
