Kenyans may go to the polls next year to endorse a president appointed by special interest groups unless the middle class takes a leading role in the election process, presidential aspirant Professor James Ole Kiyiapi said on Sunday.

‘’The next election may end being a mechanical process because special interest groups are now meeting in boardrooms to determine the next president. Voters may be robbed of their democratic right to use the election process to vote in new leadership,’’ said Professor Ole Kiyiapi.

Professor Ole Kiyiapi, who is vying for the presidency on a Restore and Build Kenya ticket said the middle class in Kenya must stand up and ring fence the “Wanjiku presidency” from special interest groups that want to perpetuate impunity, mediocrity and corruption in management of public affairs.

‘’The nation fought hard to get a Constitution that represents the interests of all Kenyans. The middle class must now arise and deliver a Wanjiku presidency,’’ said Professor Ole Kiyiapi.

He accused those forming pre-election deals of engaging in an act of self preservation.

He was speaking during the inauguration of his fund-raising committee that is led by Ms Winnie Kaburu. (KNA)
