It is now official that Agriculture minister Sally Kosgei has severed ties with Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

During a rally at Kaptumo in her Aldai constituency on Friday, which was attended by more than 20 MPs from various parts of the country, an emotional Dr Kosgei said if that would cost her Cabinet job, then she was ready to lose it.

“I have held higher positions in the government before and during the time of retired president Daniel arap Moi and I am not afraid to let the flag go. It will not change my lifestyle,” said Dr Kosgei.

“This flag has got no meaning, it only helps me to evade the traffic jam,” she said amid cheers from the public.

She said former Industrialisation minister Henry Kosgey had assigned her the duty of revealing their stand at a rally at 64 Stadium in Eldoret a fortnight ago and that she was not afraid to do so.

“I have been in constant consultation with Mr Ruto and I want to assure you that we are together. We are one community and even Mr Kosgey who is not here today has sent his message,” she said and wondered why one would assume that she was not with the people of Rift Valley.

She said the Kalenjin will unite to ensure that members of their community who are on International Criminal Court prosecutor Moreno Ocampo’s list are not prosecuted at The Hague.

Dr Kosgei wondered why four of the six named persons come from the community and furthermore, why only one journalist was picked.

On his part, Mr Ruto said: “He who has eyes has seen. Dr Kosgei is our mother and we have come here today to clear the doubt that has been there before regarding our unity.”

Mr Ruto challenged the PM to rule from the front and stop looking for scapegoats and excuses. “If he fails, he should admit and move forward,” said Mr Ruto.
