Kosgey: I am ready to work with ICC

Industrialisation minister Henry Kosgey has said he is ready to cooperate with the International Criminal Court, a day after it named him as a suspect.

He said Thursday that he had written to the ICC providing it with his contacts details.

“I wish to state that I intend to cooperate fully with the court, I have already provided them with my contacts, and would be willing to share with them any information they want from me,” said Kosgey during a news conference at the Norfolk Hotel, Nairobi.

Mr Kosgey, who was flanked by three cabinet ministers and 20 ODM MPs, said he was deeply shocked that the ICC prosecutor had made an application to summon him to The Hague.

“I state categorically that I had nothing whatsoever to do with the 2008 post election violence and I am innocent of the allegations,” said the ODM chairman.

Mr Kosgey said he was surprised that Mr Moreno Ocampo had not contacted him either in written or even orally to assist in the investigations, which he readily would have done.

“I was not given any opportunity to respond to any allegation, I would have been glad to assist with any information that may have been needed by the prosecutor, I received no such request.” the minister said.

Mr Kosgey said like any other Kenya he was deeply shocked and saddened by 2008 violence and as much as he regretted Mr Moreno Ocampo's decision to include him in his list he supported the process and was confident that he will be vindicated.

"I have taken legal advice and shall be taking all legally appropriate and necessary steps,” said Mr Kosgey.

Mr Moreno Ocampo said he considered Mr Kosgey as one of the "principal planners and organisers of crimes against PNU supporters".
