Law Society of Kenya chairman Eric Mutua has been summoned by the Supreme Court over the presidential election petitions heard in March.

Mr Mutua is expected to appear before the judges on August 1 at 9am, according to a communication from the court’s deputy registrar, Ms Lucy Njora.

The communication did not, however, say why the LSK chairman was summoned or whether he will appear before a full bench of the judges who handled the petition filed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who disputed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.

Not fair and credible

LSK has appointed Prof Tom Ojienda to lead the legal team to represent Mr Mutua and invited any other member who would wish to join the team to be at the Supreme Court on August 1.

Mr Odinga and civil society groups under the banner of African Centre for Open Governance (Africog) challenged President Kenyatta’s victory, claiming, the electoral commission did not conduct a fair, transparent and credible election.
