Parliament’s Committee on Appointments has recommended the appointment of Joseph Ole Lenku and Samwel Kazungu Kambi as Cabinet Secretaries.

In a report tabled in the National Assembly Wednesday morning, the Committee states that Mr Lenku is "suitable for appointment as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government".

Mr Kambi has similarly been found suitable to take up his new role as Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Labour, Social Welfare and Services.

The report will then be debated and possibly adopted by the House, paving the way for their formal appointment.

Mr Lenku faces the task of taming the insecurity that has flared up in several parts of Kenya as well as the conflict between the Inspector General and the National Police Service Commission.

The career hotelier will also be tasked with handling conflict between the appointed County Commissioners and the elected Governors.

On Mr Kambi’s list would be the eradication of corruption at the National Social Security Fund, unemployment and the strikes that dominated the public sector in 2012.

The former MP’s immediate task could perhaps be finding out from the NSSF how it hopes to convince Kenyans to get their domestic workers on the pension scheme.
