An arrest warrant for Eldoret South MP Peris Simam has been lifted after she presented herself in court Friday.

She was charged with graft over a Sh4.4m road tender scam in her constituency and given a one million shillings bond or Sh500,000 cash bail.

On Thursday, the anti-corruption court in Eldoret issued the arrest warrants for the MP and her husband Enock Simam.

The two were accused of allegedly obtaining the money fraudulently for services not rendered.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) made an application for their arrest after they failed to honour summons requiring them to appear at the commission’s offices in Eldoret.

Also being sought alongside the couple are two officials of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority.

Mrs Simam and her husband are accused of fraudulently acquiring public property of Sh4.4m being directors of Kachur Holdings Ltd for services not rendered.

They are further accused of conspiring with the officials of Kenya Rural Roads Authority to commit an offence.

Other charges against them are wilful failure to comply with public tendering procedures and abuse of office. The tenders concern the rehabilitation of rural access roads within the constituency.

The court directed that the case be mentioned on June 26.

The criminal charges against the MP and her co-accused were preferred after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko ordered their prosecution.

Mr Tobiko made the recommendation following investigations carried out by the EACC after complaints by some of the MP's constituents.
