Mumias MP Benjamin Washiali was on Monday confronted by United Democratic Front supporters after word went around that he had decamped to Ford Kenya.

Mr Washiali was at pains to explain to the crowd that gathered at Lubinu Secondary School in East Wanga why he skipped a UDF rally in Mumias town.

Well-placed sources told the Nation that Mr Washiali was armed with Ford Kenya forms he was supposed to fill once given the green light by his supporters but he was ambushed by his supporter and had to change his plans.

Trouble began when he arrived at the school to inform them of his decision to ditch UDF.

To shed light

“We would like you to shed light on claims that you are planning to decamp to a different party,” UDF members shouted.

Sensing danger, the MP changed his mind and vowed to stay put in UDF, and rally behind Mr Mudavadi.

“I will defend my seat on a UDF ticket because you have said so,” he told the crowd.

Later, Mr Washiali told journalists that it was true he was on his way out of the party.

“I was weighing options after what happened in Jubilee but that was then,” he said.
