Mau evictees resettled in new homes

More than 700 families that were evicted from Mau Forest have finally been resettled at Banita in Rongai District.

And 200 squatter families in the area will also be given land alongside the Mau IDPs.

Addressing the IDPs at the farm on Friday, Lands Minister James Orengo said the government was looking for more land to resettle the remaining IDPs before the next General Election.

Posing as squatters

He also warned politicians and other government officers against posing as squatters to get land.

Roads minister Franklin Bett urged the minister to speed up the resettlement of IDPs in the country.

He said every Kenyan had a right to live in any part of the country, adding that leaders in Rift Valley were not fighting for the resettlement of Mau evictees for political gain.

Area PC Osman Warfa said existing schools and health centres in the area would be expanded to accommodation the increased population. (KNA)
