Miguna’s book promo received well in Nyeri

After a series of hostile receptions during his book promotion tour of Nakuru, Kisumu and Mombasa, author Miguna Miguna was yesterday warmly received in Nyeri town.

Hundreds of residents jammed the town’s streets to meet the former adviser of Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was also received amicably in Karatina.

Mr Miguna accused Mr Odinga of being behind lynch mobs that have disrupted the promotion of political memoirs, Peeling Back the Mask: A Quest for Justice in Kenya.

He claimed that he knew the financiers of his attackers in Mombasa at the weekend. (READ: Youth rough up Miguna in Mombasa)

“I know where the goons were paid and the orders they were given. They did what they were told to do,” he said at the YMCA Hall.

Mr Odinga’s party, ODM, on Sunday issued a statement urging its supporters to respect Mr Miguna’s rights of speech, movement and association as he marketed his book.

Mr Miguna heaped praise on the residents of Nyeri, saying by not attacking him, they had shown they were tolerant of people from other ethnic groups.

He once again dared Mr Odinga and his aides to sue him over the book, which contains allegations of deep-rooted corruption in their office.

The author said that he has avoided attacking President Kibaki because despite criticising him in the book and in public, the President had not tormented him. “It is Raila who is tormenting me,” he said.
