Minorities push for VP’s post

Politicians from the country’s minority communities have appealed to all the presidential aspirants to choose a running mate from among them.

Cooperatives Development minister Joseph Nyaga, representing Mbeere minority group, assistant ministers Wilfred Machage (Kuria) and Linah Kilimo (Marakwet) threatened to move to court if all the presidential aspirants failed to pay attention to their demands.

Countrywide rallies

Mr Nyaga cautioned presidential aspirants engaged in alliance talks with those commanding major tribes that their move would deny the minorities an opportunity for equal representation.

The leaders were addressing a rally hosted by Mrs Kilimo in Tot trading centre, Elgeiyo-Marakwet County.

“We should also be included in the powerful positions so that we get equal opportunities like the other tribes,” Dr Machage said.

Mrs Kilimo said the leaders would embark on countrywide rallies targeting minority tribes to garner enough numbers.
